Three people have been killed and 15 injured after a gunman attacked a food festival in the US state of California.
Six-year-old Stephen Romero is the first of the dead to be identified while his mother and grandmother were among those wounded.
A 13-year-old girl and a man in his 20s were also killed.
The Gilroy Garlic Festival was about to end for the weekend on Sunday evening when shots were fired at the site. The gunman has been identified as 19-year-old Santino William Legan, who was shot dead by police shortly after he began firing.
Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee told reporters Legan cut through a fence at the festival on Sunday evening and shot at people with a “AK-47-style”.
Smithee added that Police believe Legan purchased the rifle legally in Nevada on July 9.
Police are still trying to determine the motive. They are also investigating unconfirmed reports by eyewitnesses that Legan may have had an accomplice.
According to US tracking website Gun Violence Archive, this is the 246th mass shooting in the US this year.
President Donald Trump has condemned the attack, describing gunman as a “wicked murderer”.
“We grieve for their families, and we ask that God will comfort them with his overflowing mercy and grace,” Trump said.
The annual festival is a three-day celebration featuring food, cooking competitions and music that attracts thousands of people.
