Theresa May condemns Trump’s remark to congresswomen

British Prime Minister Theresa May has criticized US President Donald Trump for calling on four Democratic congresswomen of colour to “go home”.

Trump had made reference to the women – three who were born in the US and one who came as a child refugee – saying on Twitter that they should “go back and help fix” their “broken and crime-infested” countries.

The president’s remarks towards Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar has been widely condemned as racist.

Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, also denounced the comment as xenophobic and divisive, while the four congresswomen accused him of trying to appeal to white nationalists.

Despite the criticism, President Trump took to Twitter on Monday morning, calling on the women themselves to apologize.

Trump has been accused of racism many times in connection with different incidents.
