Tanzania president reinstates former state oil company boss

James Mataragio has been restored to his position as head of Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC).

This was contained in a statement released by President John Magufuli’s office.

Mataragio, who was the managing director of the state company oil, was suspended by the company’s board in August 2016 over claims of abuse of office.

Last year, he was charged to court alongside four other TPDC executives who were suspended at the same time.

The presidency did not provide the reason for the reinstatement.
