In its statement, the organisation expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its founder and chief executive, paying tribute to her legacy in establishing one of the most influential platforms celebrating Black music and culture in the United Kingdom.

The MOBO Awards, short for Music of Black Origin, were created in 1996 by King and have since grown into a major annual event recognising achievements in genres such as hip hop, R&B, reggae, soul, and gospel.

Born on February 12, 1969, in Kilburn, North London, King was the daughter of an Irish mother and a Ghanaian father. Over the course of her career, she became widely recognised for her contributions to the UK music industry and was honoured with a CBE for her services.

Her death marks the end of a significant chapter in British music culture, with tributes expected to continue from industry figures and organisations worldwide.
