El-Kanemi Warriors technical adviser Suleiman Dogo has issued a firm guarantee that the club will reclaim its status as a premier force within the Nigerian top-flight. The veteran coach aims to restore the Borno Army to the heights they reached during their highly successful 2023 and 2024 campaigns. Despite a rich recent history that includes a continental appearance in the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup, the Maiduguri-based side has struggled to maintain that elite momentum in the current season.

The club reached a significant milestone in 2023 when they secured the prestigious President Federation Cup title. This victory served as a catalyst for their subsequent foray into African club competition, yet the team has found it difficult to mirror those achievements over the past few months. Currently, El-Kanemi Warriors sit in ninth place on the Nigeria Premier Football League table, having accumulated 34 points from their 23 league outings so far.

Dogo remains confident that the squad possesses the necessary quality to climb the standings and challenge the league leaders once again. The technical department continues to refine tactical approaches to address the inconsistencies that have hindered their progress this term. By focusing on consistent performance levels, the leadership expects a significant upward shift in their competitive ranking before the season concludes.

While addressing the supporters through the club’s official communication channels, Suleiman Dogo reaffirmed his commitment to the rebuilding process:

“El-Kanemi Warriors will surely bounce back to where they truly belong.”

The Owerri-based Kun Khalifat FC has officially announced its immediate withdrawal from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), citing fundamental disagreements with the league’s disciplinary board. The decision follows a series of sanctions imposed on the club after the squad failed to appear for their Matchday 24 fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri. League organizers ruled that the absence constituted a direct violation of the competition’s operational framework, subsequently awarding El-Kanemi Warriors a 3-0 walkover victory and the maximum three points.

In addition to the match forfeiture, the NPFL board levied a ₦10 million fine against the club for the logistical failure. While the league authorities have suspended the financial penalty for the remainder of the season—provided the club avoids further infractions—the leadership at Kun Khalifat remains steadfast in their opposition to the ruling. The club insists that they formally communicated valid logistical challenges to the league office prior to the match, but they claim officials rejected these explanations without due consideration.

The club’s management has lambasted the league’s handling of the situation, characterizing the penalties as a deterrent to the growth of privately owned teams in the top flight. They argue that the current administration prioritizes commercial interests and punitive measures over the operational realities and safety of traveling athletes. Following 24 matches in their debut top-flight campaign, the club has now opted to cease all participation in the professional league system as a protest against what they perceive as systemic bias.

Expressing their frustration with the governing body’s decision, the management of Kun Khalifat FC stated:

“The punishment handed down to us is not only unacceptable but a clear indication that the league’s management is more interested in penalising clubs than fostering growth and development. We cannot continue to be part of a system that disregards the well-being of its member clubs and prioritises punishment over fairness and justice.”

The league is still a marathon. We will make adjustments where we faltered. The road trips are quite exhausting for us, but we will keep pushing.”

“Overall, I think we’re quite happy with the result. The first half was 50-50. In the second half, particularly in the last 25 minutes, they pushed us back, and we had to defend while looking to play on the counter attack,” Finidi said after the game in Maiduguri.

The draw was Rivers United’s second away point of the campaign. They currently sit eighth on the NPFL table with five points from three matches.
