Soyinka, Shehu Sani in court for Sowore’s trial


Nobel Laureate, Prof. Sole Soyinka, has arrived the Federal High Court in Abuja, in solidarity with the convener of #RevolutionNow Protest, Omoyele Sowore whose trial resumes today.

The former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani and rights activist Deji Adeyanju, are also in court.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had fixed Tuesday for the commencement of trial but had to adjourn till Wednesday due to her official assignment elsewhere.

Sowore and co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, are facing trial over charges of a treasonable felony in respect of the #RevolutionNow Protest in August 2019 for allegedly planning to topple the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, among other counts including abusing the President.

They were held in custody for over four months until December 24, 2019, when they were eventually released on the orders of the Attorney General of the Federation.
