South Africans show support for Zuma after court ruling

Supporters have gathered outside the rural home of South Africa’s ex-president, Jacob Zuma, on Friday to show solidarity to the former leader as he faced a deadline for surrendering to police for contempt of court.

The entrance to Zuma’s home was a hive of activity on Friday as supporters clad in ANC regalia gathered, singing and dancing, to deliver a clear message: “Zuma is not going to jail even if he elects to do so.”

Earlier in the week, the Constitutional Court handed Zuma a 15-month jail term for repeatedly refusing to comply with an order to appear before graft investigators.

If the 79-year-old fails to turn himself in by Sunday which is two-day’s time, police will be given a further three days to arrest him and take him to jail to start the sentence.

However, several supporters from different parts of South Africa has gathered to pledge their solidarity to the former President protesting the Court’s sentence to jail him.
