Six killed, dozens injured in Ajegunle gas explosion


No fewer than six people including two children have been confirmed killed following an explosion in a gas store on Aduke street in Ajegunle area of Lagos.

Fifty two other persons also sustained various degrees of burn from the incident that happened late on Wednesday.

According to the general manager of the Lagos state emergency management agency, LASEMA, Femi Osanyintolu there was a leakage from the gas cylinder before the explosion which also affected several shops and homes.

He also placed the death toll at two dead and several others injured.

But witnesses, on the other hand, say no fewer than six people were killed with 52 others injured. They also explained that the explosion happened when A gas vendor was filling a cylinder for a customer, who then tried to receive a phone call before the explosion happened.

The bodies of the dead have been deposited at a morgue while the injured are receiving medical treatment.
