Shop owner shot dead by SARS operatives in Ijegun

Locals in Ijegun community, Lagos state have seized and detained an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS after a shop owner was gunned down by a team the Policemen.

The victim simply identified as  Biliki was seated in her shop when she was hit by a stray bullet.

According to witnesses, the Policemen had chased a suspect to the street before opening fire. It was in the process of trying to shoot the suspect that ‘Biliki’ was hit by the bullet.

“The woman was rushed to hospital where she died. We have taken one of the men. He has been beaten and we want you to come down to see things for yourself,” The PUNCH reported, quoting a resident. 

The policeman has now been taken to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ijegun.

The Lagos State Police is yet to react to the development.

The killing of innocent bystanders by Policemen, especially operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad is not uncommon in Lagos state.

On June 15, Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, shot dead a cleaner, Francis Eni, on Ajisegiri Street, Ilupeju, Lagos.

Eni was reportedly mistaken for criminal suspect.
