A viral video of Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa North showing him assaulting a sex toy shop attendant in Abuja did not go down well with many Nigerians.

Celebrities, members of the oposition party, rights group have continued to call for his arrest by the Nigerian Police force.

Human Rights Lawyer, Festus Keyamo (SAN) on his verified twitter account had called on the police to arrest the senator immediately as well as arraign him in court.

He tweeted, “The case of Senator Elisha Abbo is very straightforward: the police must immediately take three steps: first arrest him (no formal complaint is needed with the evidence on tape). Secondly, obtain his statement (if he’s willing to make one) and that of the victim and thirdly arraign him in court.”

Meanwhile, Global rights body, Amnesty International also told the police to immediately take action against the lawmaker.

The body wrote on its facebook post that, “Senator Elisha Abbo (Adamawa North) who took three ladies shopping for sex toys in Abuja, assaulted a nursing mother, in the presence of policemen. This must be investigated. The lawmaker must face justice. The victims must be protected from his promise of more violence.”

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, who also tweeted on her verified twitter account, said it was unfortunate that Abbo was the one who replaced the respected Senator Binta Garba at the Senate.

She however called on the Senate not to shield him but ensure that he was dealt with swiftly.

Dabiri-Erewa tweeted, “To think that this PDP guy was said to have ‘defeated’ one of our most respected female parliamentarians, Senator Binta Garba. The Senate must not protect him. He should be charged. The footage is enough evidence. He deserves to be in prison.

“I hope the Senate will not protect him. I expect a senator to move a motion of urgent importance tomorrow.”

Different celebrities have also reacted negatively to the viral video expressing their anger over the senator’s action.

Nigerian singer and music producer, Olubankole Wellington also known as Banky W on his Instagram page wrote, “I’ve been saying that we need to pay attention to who we let into our National Assembly. Now we have CCTV footage of a SITTING SENATOR physically assaulting a woman in an adult toy store in Abuja, IN THE PRESENCE OF A POLICE OFFICER,

“Her only “crime” was saying “Oga takes it easy” when he got aggressive with her female store owner friend. For that, he slapped her multiple times, and then made his policemen arrest her. This is an absolute disgrace. Pls repost and share until our Police force agrees to #ArrestSenatorElishaAbbo – he must face the full wrath of the law,This is what happens when we don’t pay attention to the people we let into our leadership roles,

“This is what happens when we have a culture that subconsciously treats our women as second class citizens. We have a lot to unlearn as a country.. about how we select/allow leaders AND about the way we treat our women. We must do better. We must be better”, he added.

Peter Okoye, a member of the defunct P-Square group, called for the immediate arrest of the senator and called on the National Assembly not to allow him to sit again.

Okoye said on his Instagram page, “I am so mad right now after watching this video clip of our representative assaulting a woman. People like Elisha Abbo do not deserve to hold public office. This is disgusting. He needs to be arrested and prosecuted as soon as possible.

“If the Nigerian Senate is a serious place, he should not even be able to enter the Senate on the next sitting.”
