Senegal confirms second coronavirus case

Senegal’s health ministry said a second person has tested positive for coronavirus in the country, taking the total number of cases in sub-Saharan Africa to three.

The patient is an 80-year-old French national who flew to Dakar from France last week. He was quarantined at the Fann Hospital after seeking care at a private clinic.

This case is similar to the first case which was recorded on Monday also of a French national resident in Senegal but having flown in from France.

Authorities say the clinical status of the latest patient is stable and all efforts have been taken to identify those he was in contact with.

News of this second confirmed case in Senegal brings the total number of confirmed cases on the African continent to 12.
