Senate suspends plenary over death of N’Assembly member


Upon resumption from its one week recess, the Nigerian Senate, has adjourned plenary till Wednesday, 27th April, 2022, over the recent death of a member of the National Assembly.

The decision to suspend plenary was carried out in line with the tradition of the National Assembly, following a motion moved by the Acting Senate Leader, Ajayi Borrofice, and seconded by the Minority Whip,  Philip Aduda.

Moving the motion, the acting Senate Leader informed the Senate on the death of Ekpeyong Basey, member representing Oron Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives, who died on Monday, 25th April, 2022.

The Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege who presided over Tuesday’s session, described the demise of the lawmaker as another sad development in the National Assembly.
