Senate backs deployment of troops to highway

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege has backed the deployment of troops to the highways to protect lives of Nigerians.

Speaking to newsmen afer a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Omo-Agege says it’s not a wise decision to have soldiers in the barracks, when there was a battle on the roads to fight.

According to him, Nigerians need to be assured of their safety at all times, that’s why they support a recent order by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to deploy soldiers in many locations to confront kidnappers and robbers on the highways.

He says if the army provides security at the checkpoints, it will go a long way in preventing  kidnapping and banditry.

He further decried the level of insecurity in Nigeria, has said the legislative house is not happy about the growing security challenges facing the country, leading to loss of lives and valuables  in many  states.
