Nine killed, scores trapped in Jos building collapse

Emergency operators have confirmed Nine persons dead following a building collapsed in Jos, Plateau State.

Scores of people are also feared trapped in the rubble of the three-story building that collapsed on Monday.

The building, which houses a pharmacy and a public toilet, is located at Butcher lane, off Dilimi street in Jos north local government area of the state.

The figure was confirmed by Head of Rescue Operations NEMA, Nurudeen. He noted that the rescue operation is still ongoing with evacuator machinery mobilised to the site of the collapse.

Other rescue agencies present at the scene include; the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Red Cross and security agencies.

According to reports, no fewer than six persons have been evacuated from the collapsed building and taken to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, for medical treatment.
