Robert De Niro Publicly Supports Transgender Daughter Airyn Following Her Coming Out

Two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro has expressed unwavering love and support for his daughter Airyn, just a day after she publicly came out as a transgender woman.
The 81-year-old Hollywood icon, known for his powerful on-screen performances, showed equal strength in his personal life as he affirmed his support in a heartfelt statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter,” De Niro said. “I don’t know what the big deal is… I love all my children.”
Airyn, 29, began hormone therapy in 2024 and recently shared her transition story in an in-depth interview with a leading LGBTQ+ magazine. Her decision to live openly was met with widespread support, and her father’s public affirmation has further resonated with many.
Airyn is one of De Niro’s seven children and has a twin brother, Julian. She and Julian were born during De Niro’s long-term relationship with actress Toukie Smith, which lasted from 1988 to 1996.
De Niro’s open embrace of his daughter’s identity has been praised as a powerful message of acceptance and love, particularly within families navigating similar journeys.
