Reps to investigate death of footballer Martins Chineme

The Committee on Sports is set to begin a probe into the cause of death of Nasarawa United’s defender, Martins Chineme.

The House of Representatives gave the directive at plenary today, while also mandating an audit of the health facilities provided by the league management company for league matches across the country.

The late footballer slumped on the pitch and died during a match against Katsina United in Lafia, Nasarawa State on March 8th.

One of the lawmakers Dachung Bagos, raised the motion while expressing his disappointment over the poor state of health facilities in the country.

The House observed a minute of silence in honor of late footballer and further urged the Nigeria Football Federation/League Management Company (NFFLMC) to ensure that first aid and emergency response with ambulance services are on standby at all match events in line with international best practices.
