Reps Deputy Spokesman Denies Alleged Showdown with Speaker Abbas

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, has dismissed media reports suggesting that lawmakers are plotting a showdown with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, when the House resumes from recess.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the Benue lawmaker described the report as speculative and a deliberate attempt to create division within the Green Chamber. He emphasized that members of the House remain united and firmly supportive of the Speaker and his leadership team.

“The confidence of members in Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen is not negotiable. Since his emergence, Speaker has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, fairness, and respect for colleagues across party lines. He has carried members along in decision-making under the ‘People’s House’ mantra and shown unwavering commitment to their welfare and the development of their constituencies,” Agbese stated.

On alleged grievances regarding staff recruitment, the Deputy Spokesperson clarified that the exercise was conducted by the National Assembly Service Commission an independent body not by the Speaker or the leadership of the 10th House.

He further noted that, in keeping with his listening leadership style, the Speaker has set up two special committees to review the matter. One committee will be chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, while the other will be led by the former Deputy Speaker of the 9th House, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase.
