Rapper, DMX dies at 50

Award winning rap legend, DMX is dead. The rapper died on Friday, April 9, a week after being hospitalized following a heart attack.

The rapper’s family confirmed his death in a statement they released on social media saying the artist born Earl Simmons died after nearly a week on life support following a heart attack.

According to the statement, the 50 year old died at White Plains Hospital north of New York City, with his loved ones by his side.

”Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”
The statement thereafter noted that information about his memorial will be released at a later date.

The controversial rapper who reigned over the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits including “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” and “Party Up” — was among hip-hop’s darkest stars, laying his inner demons out for the masses in gritty, hard-driving anthems that gained him commercial and critical acclaim.

Throughout his career, X struggled to balance fame and staying on the right path. He had been arrested on many occasions in the past two decades, and served a one year jail stint for tax evasion, in which he was released in 2019. In September of 2019, he signed a new recording contract with Def Jam, reuniting with his first major label home. A month later, he entered into a drug rehabilitation facility. In August of 2020, he announced he was working on his first album since 2015’s Redemption of the Beast with frequent collaborator Swizz Beatz.
