Queen Elizabeth II under medical supervision as family gathers at Balmoral

The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth is under medical supervision at Balmoral after her doctors became concerned for her health.

The 96-year-old monarch has been dogged by health problems since October last year that left her with difficulties walking and standing.

The announcement comes after the Queen, pulled out of a meeting of her Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

There are clearly pressing concerns for the Queen’s health – much more explicitly put than before and without any reference to this only being about difficulties with mobility.

“Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral,” the palace statement said.

All of the queen’s children, including heir Prince Charles, were either at her bedside or en route. Among them were Edward, Andrew and Anne, who was already in Scotland for some events there this week.

Prince Harry and Meghan are en route to Balmoral, a spokesperson for the couple said. Prince William was also on his way to Balmoral. His wife, Catherine, remained in Windsor as her children Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte are on their first full day at their new school, Kensington Palace said.
