The School Proprietor and prime suspect, Abdulmalik Tanko in the murder of five year old Hanifa Abubakar has pleaded not guilty to the kidnap and murder of the young girl.
Tanko had earlier during his parade at the Kano State Police Headquarters confessed to journalists that he kidnapped and killed the victim with N100 rat poison before burying her remains in a shallow grave in one of his schools.
The trio of Abdulmalik alongside his accomplice, Hashim Isyaku and Fatima Bashir were arraigned before the Kano State High court on five count charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, confinement, and culpable homicide contrary to section 97, 274, 277, 221 of the penal code.
When the matter came up before the court presided over by Justice Usman Na’abba, the defendants pleaded guilty to the first count charge bordering on conspiracy and denied the remaining four-count charges.
The defence counsel led by Mukhtar Usman Kabo (Legal Aid Counsel) however prayed the court to grant it prayers to prepare it lawyers for speedy trial.
Meanwhile, the trial judge has adjourned the matter to March 2 and 3 for the commencement of the hearing and ordered the accused persons to be remanded in the correctional centre.
