President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended all #EndSARS protests across the country.
In a national address that was within 15 minutes on Thursday, the president who emphasized that the voices of the protesters have been heard “loud and clear”, called on youths to discontinue all protests.
24. “I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.”
President Buhari thereafter, directed Nigerians to return to their daily activities. He however did not address the issue of reported killings of peaceful protesters at Lekki Toll gate area of Lagos by Nigerian soldiers.
25. “And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.”
The president also responded to the international community such as the UN, ECOWAS and Amnesty International who called for investigations into the protests and Lekki shootings.
While acknowledged their concerns, he urged them to get all their facts right before making any “hasty pronouncements”.
Some Nigerians, however took to social media to express their displeasure over President Muhammadu Buhari’s silence on the controversial Lekki shootings and his handlings of the situation.
