Electricity workers have shut down major power stations due to the ongoing nationwide strike.

This comes after, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) On Tuesday, directed its members to go on strike over “contravention of workers’ conditions and default on the payment of entitlement by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)”.

TCN, however, appealed to the workers to suspend the proposed strike, assuring that steps had been taken to resolve the issues.

Meanwhile, the minister of state for power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, has urged the union to give the government two weeks to address the issues raised and come up with proposals for an acceptable resolution.

Also at Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council Meeting, the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu explained that it is holding discussions with the organized labour in order to proffer resolution to various issues which have led electricity workers in the country to embark on a strike.

He stated that the issues in contention center around employment which is largely under the purview of the Head of Service and not the Ministry of Power.
