The Nigeria Police Force has reviewed, standardized and simplified its Rules of Engagement otherwise known as Order 237, to democratize its policing standards.
At a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu says they have launched 2,000 copies of the document, for the ease of comprehension by all members of the police force.
Adumu said the review was done in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Swiss Government, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and AIG Austin Iwar (rtd).
Adamu stressed that the step is to check the issues of excessive use of force by policemen.
Meanwhile, the police boss has assured Nigerians that the up and coming governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states will be peaceful.
