Police rescue 259 people from another illegal rehab centre


The Oyo State Police command has rescued No fewer than 259 inmates of an “illegal rehabilitation centre” at Olore Central Mosque in the Ojo area of Ibadan.

The rescued person including  34 females, 10 children and an infant have been handed over to the state government.

Operators of the facility, located at the Olore area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ojoo, claim it is a correctional centre for delinquents.

Addressing journalists after the raid, Shina Olukolu, that state commissioner of police, said the centre was discovered following a tip-off by a male informant.

“The young man said they were being maltreated, not being well-fed, being treated like slaves and they are engaged in false labour and, sometimes, their death is not reported to anybody,” the Police Commissioner stated.

He also added that five persons suspected to be connected with the centre were arrested, while the police begin investigations on the matter.

Meanwhile, Faosat Sanni, commissioner for women affairs in the state, says the victims would be relocated to a safer place and those with health challenges would be taken to the hospital.
