Police dismiss Bayelsa officer who shot driver, passenger

Police on Tuesday dismissed officer who shot the driver of a commercial vehicle and a passenger in Bayelsa State on January 6 has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force. 

The spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswatrevealed this while speaking to journalists. 

The officer and the driver of the vehicle were said to have had an altercation over parking rights which resulted in the shooting. 

The two victims, who survived the brutal assault, have been receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. 

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Uche Anozia, ordered the arrest and detention of the suspect at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. 

Butswat made it known that the trigger happy officer has been dismissed from the Force and the process for his arraignment is ongoing.”
