Police accuse Army of killing three operatives in Taraba


Inspector general of the Nigeria Police Force, Mohammed Adamu has ordered an investigation into the killing of three officers of the force and a civilian by troops of the Nigerian Army in Taraba state.

The Police through its spokesman, DCP Frank Mba late on Wednesday announced that some soldiers attacked Police officers who were on an investigative mission within the Ibi area of Taraba.

Mba said that the officers had gone to arrest one Alhaji Hamisu who was indicted in a series of high-profile kidnap incidents in the State, but came under sudden attack and serious shooting by soldiers of the Nigerian Army.

The police spokesman said the operatives were shot at severally by the soldiers despite sufficient proof that they are police personnel on legitimate duty.

Mba said the arrested kidnap suspect was also freed by the soldiers.

He added that other Police officers sustained various degrees of injury in the face-off and are receiving medical attention.

Condemning the incident, the Inspector General of the force, Mohammed Adamu ordered a full investigation into the incident.
