PDP crisis: Iyorchia Ayu stays after NEC pass vote of confidence

The National Executive Council of the People’s Democratic Party has passed a vote-of-confidence in Senator Iyorchia Ayu, suggesting that the party chairman will not be stepping down any time soon.

The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by the Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu and seconded by Ishola Balogun Fulani from Kwara State.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who presided over the sitting, put the question whether any member of the NEC was against the motion, but the overwhelming majority agreed that a vote of confidence be passed on Ayu and the party leadership.

There have been calls by some members of the party that Ayu should step down as the chairman of the PDP.

In reaction to the development, the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, said the party is determined to resolve its disagreements.

According to him, such disagreements as have rocked the party in recent times, are normal in a family.
