Party Defection: Ebonyi NASS Caucus disowns Umahi, describes governor as ungrateful

Reactions have continued to trail the announcement of Governor Umahi’s defection to the All Progressive’s Congress, APC on Tuesday.

In a statement, the South East People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the National Assembly disowned Governor David Umahi.

Chairman of the Ebonyi National Assembly caucus and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, at a press conference in Abuja, said though Umahi has the right to join any political party of his choice, the reasons he advanced for his defection were untenable.

He said the National Assembly members from the state, would not abandon the PDP because of Umahi.

Egwu said: “We remain proud card-carrying members of the PDP, the platform on which we contested elections in 2019 and won.

He insisted that the Governor should be the last person to jump ship having benefitted immensely from PDP in the past which included his appointment State PDP chairman, election as deputy governor and two-term governor on the platform of the party.
