Oyo state Govt shuts Shasha market indefinitely


Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has imposed a curfew and ordered the immediate closure of Shasha market in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state following the continued killings and destruction of property in the market.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Taiwo Adisa on Saturday.

According to the statement, the closure is indefinite. and the curfew, which covers Shasha and the market area, is to run from 6 pm to 7 am.

The statement warned residents of the area to go about their legitimate businesses peacefully, stating that anyone caught perpetrating violence would face the wrath of the law.

The clashes rocking the market continued on Saturday morning with youths unleashing mayhem on one another in the area. A group of unidentified persons reportedly razed the Shasha market overnight by burning down some shops, kiosk and wares of some traders.
