Over 30 persons have been killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits in attacks on four villages in Zamfara State.
The attacks were carried out in Gobirawa, Rini, Gora, and Madoti Dankule in Bakura and Maradun LGAs in the state located in the north-western region of the country.
According to reports, the gunmen came in large numbers on motorcycles, stormed the village while shooting sporadically which led to loss of lives and several others injured.
Houses and other valuables in the village were also razed to the ground in the course of the attack.
According to the administrator of Bakura Local government, Aminu Suleiman, over 30 persons were confirmed dead after the deadly attack.
Suleiman who spoke when the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Magarya, led a delegation of the state government to the affected villages noted that
more security personnel are needed in the area if farming is to be successful this season.
On his part, the speaker of the Assembly said Governor Bello Matawalle asked the delegation to visit the victims and sympathise with them.
He wished the injured victims a quick recovery and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives to the attacks.
Magarya thereafter assured the victims that the state government would provide succor to them and ensure the deployment of more security personnel in the area.
He condemned the attacks and described them as barbaric and callous, reiterating the state government’s commitment to counter banditry in the State.
