Osun Politics: Wike-Backed PDP Disowns Petition Against Adeleke

The Peoples Democratic Party faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has disowned a petition challenging the re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying the party neither filed nor authorised the legal action.

The petition, identified as EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was reportedly submitted by Adebayo Adedamola, a PDP governorship candidate aligned with the Kabiru Turaki faction. It listed Governor Adeleke, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Accord Party as respondents.

The petition was displayed on Monday at the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo.

However, Adedamola later denied having filed the petition in his name, further casting doubt on its origin and authenticity.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-backed PDP, Jungudo Mohammed, said the faction had no involvement in the case and had not sanctioned the petition.

Mohammed explained that under the party’s constitution, only the national legal adviser has the authority to initiate legal proceedings on behalf of the PDP. He added that no approval was issued for the petition challenging Adeleke’s victory.

The development comes amid heightened political activity in Osun State following the governorship election, with rival political camps continuing to contest aspects of the electoral process.
