Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala and Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen have both expressed their desire to win their categories at the CAF Awards.
Oshoala was nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year award alongside Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout and South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana, while Osimhen was shortlisted for the African Youth Player of the Year award alongside fellow Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.
While been interviewed separately by newsmen, both players said they were happy to be nominated for the awards.
They also said they were not under any pressure as they believed the best player would win the award.
Osimhen also said he was happy to be shortlisted for the African Youth Player of the Year award for a second time.
The Eagles star emerged winner of the award in 2015.
“For me, I will always be positive, so, I wish myself the best to win. But of course, we have Samuel Chukwueze and Hakimi who are very good and talented players, any one of us that wins it deserves it,” Osimhen said.
Basically for me, it’s just to keep playing my game, having fun and enjoying my career and whatever comes after will only be an achievement,” Oshoala said.
The winners of the CAF awards will be announced at a ceremony in Egypt on January 7, 2020.
