The Deputy Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, Lamis Benjamin, has revealed that one life has been lost and 400 houses have so far been destroyed by windstorm across the state.
Speaking to newsmen over the weekend, Benjamin explained that apart from the buildings, flood had also washed away farmlands and destroyed several hectares of food and cash crops.
The flooding occurred in the Kwami Local Government Area, and over 208 buildings were destroyed by thunderstorm.
Benjamin said the government had been doing its best to sensitise the populace to the effects of climate change and the need for them to plant more trees to protect the environment.
She pleaded with the residents to desist from building their houses on waterways and urged them to stop dumping refuse in drainages.
