One dead in South Africa plane crash

A light aircraft has crashed into a residential area in South Africa’s North West province, killing the pilot while the passenger was seriously injured.

Police spokesperson Sam Tselanyane said the Piper aircraft hurtled between two houses after hitting the garage wall of one of the properties in Isaac Peloeng Street at Huhudi, near Vryburg, about 5pm on Sunday evening.

The pilot was declared dead on scene and his passenger was admitted to hospital following the crash.

“The families of the two affected residences were advised to vacate their houses for safety reasons pending removal of the wreckage,” Tselanyane said.

The cause of the accident is still unclear. But the South African Police Service (SAPS) said it was investigating a case of manslaughter or culpable homicide.
