The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the immediate past governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha a certificate of return as Senator-elect to represent Imo west senatorial district.
INEC had refused to issue Okorocha a certificate of return on the grounds that the result of the February 23 senatorial election in Imo west district was announced under duress.
But a federal high court in Abuja ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Okorocha, having been declared the winner of the polls.
Okorocha’s media aide, Sam Onwuemedo, had said Monday that the ex-governor was still expecting it and that he would inform the public when the commission issues him the certificate.
Few hours after the 9th Assembly leadership was formed with Ahmed lawan and Ovie Omo-Agege emerging as Senate president and Deputy, respectively, Okorocha received his certificate of confirming him as winner of the polls.
