Oil theft in Nigeria: Criminal activity must be dismantled through concerted efforts – Majomi


In a related development, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu has disclosed that the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) would soon reveal the identities of highly placed Nigerians behind oil theft in Nigeria.

The menace has cost the country a a staggering $1 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2022, endangering the economy of Africa’s top producer.

Painting a clearer picture of the issue, Gbenga Komolafe, the chairman of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission said only about 132 million barrels of the 141 million barrels of oil produced in the first quarter of 2022 were received at export terminals.
