The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed that the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has not been released from detention.
This comes following reports that Obiano had been released from the EFCC custody.
The EFCC Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, noted that Obiano was transferred to Abuja on Friday morning.
“That is fake news. The governor is still with us. He has been transferred to Abuja.” the spokesman said.
In September 2021, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra had asked the anti-graft agency to probe the finances of the state in order to unearth “monumental deception”.
Basil Ejidike, Anambra APC chairman, had alleged that Obiano was “fraudulently” using the state’s security vote.
