President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the military to carry out their activities in accordance with the rules of engagement and international code of conduct.
Buhari made this call while speaking at the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference held in Kaduna on Tuesday.
The Nigerian army has been serially accused, by rights groups, of flouting human rights during its operations, an allegation the has continued to deny.
Speaking further, the President praised the Nigerian Army for its efforts towards protecting the country.
He pledged to improve the welfare of every military personnel and their families.
The annual Chief of Army Staff Conference is an end-of-the-year opportunity for the military to evaluate its activities for 2019 and develop strategies for its 2020 activities.
The event had in attendance, Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd); Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and the Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashil.
