NSCDC arrests two pipeline vandals in Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command has busted a syndicate of oil pipeline vandals in the Baruwa area of Alimosho Local Government in Lagos State.

The Public Relations Officer, NSCDC Lagos State Command, Abolurin Oluwaseun, confirmed this in a statement released over the weekend.

Oluweseun said the vandals were nabbed after destroying the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in the area and attempted to escape with a fully-loaded tanker containing 60,000 litres worth of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

“The Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Paul Ayeni, upon receiving a signal via the Command’s Community Based Intelligence Network about the criminal activities of vandals at the Baruwa area of Alimosho Local Government, on Saturday 10th April, 2021, at about 01:35hrs, ordered the Head of the Anti- Vandal Unit on patrol, on the right of away, to swing into action in a bid to avert the unimaginable evil that may be perpetrated by these criminal elements.

To further daze the vandals with more damage during the operation, without any form of escape, the Armed Squad Commander, of the Command and the Divisional Officer, Alimosho Division, were ordered to provide back up for the operatives already at the scene,” the statement read.

Oluwaseun noted that although men of the commend were attacked by hoodlums during the operation, the combined efforts of the Command’s team overpowered and smashed the vandals at the scene.

“Finally, the tanker containing the 60,000 litres of (PMS – petrol) and the two vandals have been brought to the Lagos State Command, headquarters,” the PRO noted.

According to the statement, further investigation has also been instituted over the illicit act perpetrated by the vandals while the NNPC authorities in Lagos have also been informed and repair works has commenced immediately.

The NSCDC commandant, Lagos State Command, Paul Ayeni, said that the escaped vandals will not be spared as the Command will ensure they are brought to book.

He therefore appealed to Lagosians to remain vigilant and supportive to the course of ensuring maximum security of lives and property as well as all critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.
