NiMet Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Welfare Concerns

Employees of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have commenced an indefinite strike to protest poor salaries, inadequate training, and unfavorable working conditions.

The industrial action has led to the shutdown of meteorological services nationwide, raising concerns about the potential impact on aviation safety and weather forecasting.

The workers’ grievances include the non-payment of arrears, failure to implement a reviewed scheme of service, and lack of allowances.

They have vowed to continue the strike until their demands are met by the agency’s management.

The strike highlights the broader issues of labor dissatisfaction within public sector agencies and the need for comprehensive reforms to address employee welfare.
