Nigeria, UNICEF sign pact on child rights protection


The Federal government, the United Nations system in Nigeria and UNICEF has signed an agreement on the Handover Protocol for children encountered in the course of armed conflict in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin Region.

Speaking at the event, the UNICEF Country Representative, Cristian Munudate, said the signing of the protocol is borne out of negotiations between the Nigerian military authorities and the world body.

On his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama explained that the adoption of the Child Right Act 2013 and the formal signing of the protocol between Nigeria and UNICEF was to ensure the protection of the right of children and other vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
