NIgeria has 21 suspected cases of Coronavirus in four states – Health Minister


Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health says there are 21 suspected cases of the Coronavirus, COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Ehanire said this on Friday during a press conference in Abuja, where he gave updates on the Coronavirus situation in Nigeria.

He said the 21 suspected cases were reported in four states of the federation – Lagos, Ogun, FCT and Kano from March 01 to date.

The minister adds that three of the 21 suspected cases have been tested.

He says while two turned out negative, the result for the third is still pending.

Ehanire also noted that the contacts of the index case upon his arrival in Nigeria are closely being monitored. According to him, there are 21 of such in Lagos while 40 have been identified in Ogun, with none showing any symptoms.

According to the Minister, no fewer than 55 of the passengers on the Aircraft with the Italian are actively being followed up.

Ehanire added that the government is not keen on shutting down schools and religious centres yet as the situation is still under control.

He also maintained that the Italian man remains the only confirmed case of the Coronavirus, COVID-19 in Nigeria.
