The Senate ad-hoc committee investigating financial misappropriation in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, says it has concluded its investigation and has presented its findings before the Senate.
In the report read by the committee chairman Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, on Thursday, the committee said the NDDC spent 1.3 trillion Naira between 2015 and May 31st, 2019.
He said the committee also observed process errors and infractions, as well as substantial payments, were made to staff in the form of unjustifiable allowances.
According to the report, the NDDC paid 4.9 billion Naira to staff for numerous allowances including COVID-19 relief, tour duty allowances, overseas travel, and international scholarships, all of which was during the lockdown and cessation of flights abroad.
The Senate committee concluded that many of these expenses contravened the law and were extra-budgetary.
It further dissolution of the interim management committee IMC, saying the body has not shown any record of prudence.
