Namadi Sambo Refutes Defection Claims, Says Photo with Kaduna Governor Is Misleading

Former Vice President says viral photo with Governor Uba Sani is old, denies any plan to join APC.

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has strongly denied claims that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Social media was abuzz on Wednesday after reports alleged that Sambo had joined the APC, citing a photo of him alongside Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani. However, in a swift rebuttal issued on Thursday, Sambo’s media adviser, Umar Sani, dismissed the reports as false and mischievous.

Sani clarified that the photograph being circulated is not recent and was taken during a condolence visit by Governor Sani to Sambo’s Abuja residence, following the death of the former Vice President’s brother, the late Sani Sambo. He stressed that the image was now being misrepresented to fit a fabricated political narrative.

“The claim that His Excellency has defected is entirely untrue and without basis,” the statement read. “He remains a loyal and dedicated member of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

Sambo is also scheduled to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on June 19, a legacy project he initiated while in office. The statement emphasized that his presence at the event should not be misconstrued as a sign of political realignment or endorsement of any party outside the PDP.

“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency has no intention of joining any other political party,” Sani added, accusing the originators of the defection story of spreading misinformation to create confusion and score political points.

The clarification comes as Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, a period often characterized by shifting alliances and political speculation.
