Minister ,NCWS, others back renaming women center after Maryam Babangida


A cross-section of Nigerian women say former Nigerian First Lady, Maryam Baban-gida, has done a lot in national development by way of women empowerment, and it is therefore unfair that she is not immortalized.

In her remarks at the one-day public hearing by the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Betty Apiafi, said the Bill seeks to amend the National Centre for Women Development Act 2004 and rename the Centre after the late former First lady.

She said the development was to appreciate late Baban-gida’s outstanding contributions to the upliftment of Nigerian women and national development.
