Mbappé Hospitalized with Gastroenteritis, Club World Cup Involvement in Doubt

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalized due to an acute case of gastroenteritis, the Spanish club announced on Thursday.

The France international and World Cup winner missed Real Madrid’s Club World Cup opener against Al Hilal on Wednesday in Miami, after being sidelined with a fever.

Madrid manager Xabi Alonso had earlier expressed hope that Mbappé would recover in time to feature in the team’s next match against Pachuca on Sunday. However, the news of his hospitalization has now cast doubt on his availability for the remainder of the tournament, which is being held in the United States throughout the month.

“Our player Kylian Mbappé is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment,” the club said in an official statement.
