The Lagos State Government has arraigned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, Andrew Nice who is the prime suspect in the alleged murder of his passenger, Oluwabamise Ayanwola, in February.
He pleaded not guilty to the offences of rape and murder of Miss Ayanwola in February 2022, as well as another rape incident of another young lady which occurred last November.
Nice was arraigned after recommendations by the director of public prosecutions advising the state government to press charges against the suspect.
During the arraignment at the Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Jide Martins who is the director of public prosecutions represented Lagos state while Ikechukwu Ezekwem represented the defendant.
Another counsel, Ayo Ademiluyi announces appearance for the Ayanwola family.
The charges were read out in English language and interpreted to the defendant in pidgin English, as he told the court he didn’t understand English very well.
Trial dates were thereafter fixed for May 9, 10 and 11, 2022
