The manhunt for the escaped inmates from the Kuje Medium Custodial Centre in Abuja continues to yield appreciable results.

This rings true as another of the escapees from the Security Correctional Centre has been recaptured in Abuja, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said.

A statement by the Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, said the escapee identified as Suleiman Sidi, was arrested in the early hours of Monday 11th July at a motor park in an effort to flee to Borno State.

The daring invasion on the Kuje Correctional facility by gunmen last week Tuesday led to the death of four inmates and escape of 879 others.

443 of the fleeing inmates were recaptured and returned to the facility while spirited efforts by the Security and Law Enforcement Agencies are in top gear for those still at large. The Islamic State West Africa Province, (ISWAP), a terrorist group operating in parts of Nigeria, has since claimed responsibility for the attack.

Only last Friday, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS) released names and images of inmates who escaped from the Kuje Medium Custodial Centre following the deadly attack.

The inmates were said to have cases relating to terrorism and being members of the Boko Haram sect.

According to the Statement by the NDLEA, the Operatives of the
FCT Command of the Agency saw to the arrest of the wanted terror suspect, Suleiman Sidi, who in him were found wraps of illicit drugs.

The Statement read in part:

The fleeing terror suspect, Suleiman Sidi, was arrested in the early hours of Monday 11th July at Area 1 motor park, in the Federal Capital Territory while attempting to board a commercial vehicle to Maiduguri, Borno state. When he was searched, three wraps of cannabis sativa were found on him.

During preliminary interview, the wanted terror suspect confimed he was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre for terrorism and robbery charges, adding that he was indeed one of the inmates who escaped from the facility last Tuesday.

While commending the officers and men of the FCT Command of the Agency for the arrest and their vigilance, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has directed that the wanted suspect should be immediately handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS.
