Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has completed the comprehensive renovation of the historic Gidan Kuli groundnut oil mill located in Kankia Local Government Area. The revitalised facility is set to begin full operations soon and is projected to generate over 500 direct and indirect jobs, significantly stimulating the local economy.
The renovation, carried out by the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV), involved a full overhaul of the aging infrastructure. This included refurbishing outdated machinery, installing modern processing equipment, and constructing new administrative blocks, shops, and perimeter fencing.
Describing the project as more than just an economic venture, Governor Radda emphasized its symbolic value, noting that it represents a strong commitment to restoring Katsina’s agricultural heritage.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Governor said the project is a key component of his administration’s broader agenda to diversify the state’s economy.
Originally established in 1992, the facility has now been transformed into a modern Groundnut Processing Centre under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs. Governor Radda highlighted that placing the project under the Ministry underscores the essential role women play in agricultural processing and reflects his administration’s focus on empowering women economically.
