Insecurity: INEC worried over election violence, seeks urgent steps to reverse trend


With just a little over one month into the election campaign for the 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is seeking the support of Security Agencies to crack down on perpetrators of physical attacks.

Also of concern are the unwarranted attacks on INEC facilities with the offices in Ogun and Osun states the latest casualties.

Speaking at an emergency meeting with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu said materials destroyed during the attacks include among others 65,699 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards.

Also speaking, the National Security Adviser to the President, Babagana Monguno said no individual or political party would be allowed to disrupt 2023 elections, adding that president Muhammadu Buhari has already given directives to all the security agencies to deal with electoral violence.
